Well, today is the 1 year anniversary of my last blog post on LiveJournal. Of course, I didn't realize this until I came here to make this post. What are the chances, eh?
Anyhow, look at and click the pic and you'll know the reason for the entry.

| Back to back Back to the Future |
[12 Feb 2007|12:22pm] |
Ok, so I started on a project this weekend that has been a dream of mine for quite some time: a Back to the Future mega-cut that's continuous from parts I through III. So far all I have gotten done is establishing my cut in/out points and gotten some quick/crude edits going (I'm using some VOB chopping/joining utilities for the rough cuts, so there is a split second of artifacts during a transition, but it works to establish the proof of concept.)
Next on the agenda is to take the VOBs and demux them back into mpeg2 files to bring into Premiere where I can do better cuts. After that, output back into VOB and the really crappy part... reestablishing chapters. It'll probably take a couple weeks before I get done with it, but even with the rough cuts it's pretty awesome.

Ok, Sonya and I are about to enter the "sending invitations to the wedding" phase so I need to collect addresses for all you folks. It's pretty painless, just go here, fill in the info, and hit submit.
Thanks in advance!

In case you haven’t heard by now, Sonya and I got engaged on Saturday. For some of you, this was a surprise. For some of you, this was inevitable.

An email I sent to webmaster@wendys.com today:
It appears as the wendys.com site is not sending the correct MIME type for .png graphic files. It is sending the content type of text/html when it should really be sending image/png instead. A lot of browsers won't catch this error because they see the .png extension and use that to override the MIME type. I only noticed the problem because I am behind an active proxy that performs filters on text/html documents. Included below are the headers sent/received for a request of a .png file from the wendys.com site. +++GET 84518+++ GET /images/spacer.png HTTP/1.0 Accept: */* Referer: http://www.wendys.com/images/spacer.png Accept-Language: en-us User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1) Host: www.wendys.com Cookie: WEBTRENDS_ID=69.208.245.247-1155139964.54817; JSESSIONID=GhJDbv7Yyh3m1p1hlfL4wXJYQKtNdTL1LFyl2XZH828DZlLsHLDG!1922843736!-53786037; testcookie=test Connection: keep-alive +++RESP 84518+++ HTTP/1.0 200 OK Date: Wed, 09 Aug 2006 16:15:40 GMT Server: Apache Content-Length: 153 Last-Modified: Mon, 31 Jul 2006 12:11:30 GMT Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 +++CLOSE 84518+++ Edward Sampson edward@sampson.tv

| Anybody in the mood... |
[08 Aug 2006|11:55am] |
Anybody in the mood to drive me to the airport on Thursday? My plane leaves at 2:05 pm so it's not one of those things where you'd have to get up super early.
Based on the responses (or lack of responses) I may be calling some of you tonight to try to hit you up for a ride. :P

| The Florida Trip |
[02 Aug 2006|11:51pm] |
Well, it's been three days since I've been back so I guess it's about time for me to post about my trip to Florida.
To start off, getting there was not half the fun. Dave drove me to the airport at the crack of dawn so I could make my 9:30 am flight. Well, apparently this was unnecessary as my flight ended up getting delayed by four hours. When you haven’t seen your beautiful girlfriend in more than two weeks, a four hour delay is like torture. Spirit Airlines gave everybody on the plane a $50 voucher for a future flight because of the delay but I thought that was a bit less than what they should have done.
Anyhow, I made it to Ft. Myers and was greeted at the very edge of the security checkpoint by Sonya. No other hug had ever felt as good as the one that came as soon as I stepped over that checkpoint line. I couldn’t help but lift her up completely off her feet as I wrapped my arms around her. From then on the days kind of become a blur as they went by way too fast but there are some quite memorable moments.
One very memorable moment was attempting to find the drive-in movie theatre. She had the address of the theatre, but no directions. She did know where the road was that it was supposed to be on, so no biggie. Well, after going the wrong way on the road for a loooong time and actually leaving Ft. Myers, we turned around and ended up going wayyyyy too far up the wrong way. We eventually found that the road actually kept the same name with a perpendicular road at this one intersection north of town. It was such a relief after like an hour of driving around to see the big outdoor screen. Well, it was a relief until we noticed that the theatre was shut down and was now a flea market. But, we did have a ton of fun moments in the car just goofing around and being completely crazy.
One day we went to Ft. Myers beach. It was nice for a while but some storm clouds rolled in to ruin our fun. We hung out under some little awnings and watched a raccoon ravage garbage bins until the storm passed. After that we went back out to the beach and stayed until after we watched the sunset together. I can’t remember ever watching the sunset before and it was an incredible moment.
Another day we had made reservations to go parasailing. We drove alllll the way out to Captiva Island and just before our scheduled time came around it started storming. Apparently this is the rainy season in Florida which pretty much means that every day is going to be rainy at some point. When you see a 40% chance of rain, what it really means is that 40% of the time it rains all the time. We were fortunately able to reschedule parasailing for the next day and it was beautiful out when we went. For those of you who haven’t gone before, parasailing is so much fun! It’s so gentle and peaceful going up and coming down that I didn’t even get scared of being up so high. (I have a fear of heights, just FYI) We forgot to take our camera with us for the parasailing, but a couple from Wisconsin offered to take our picture and email it to us so hopefully we’ll get that soon!
To do something nice for Sonya, I had the idea of cooking a romantic dinner. I was a bit nervous about me making dinner, as I am not the most culinary inclined person. I think it turned out really well though, and apparently Sonya did too because that particular act merited a it’s own blog entry on Sonya’s myspace.
For another night’s dinner we got dressed up a little bit. My outfit was ok but Sonya looked absolutely amazing, as you can see in this picture. We had read a good review of a restaurant called La Tiers that was inside a hotel in Ft. Myers so we decided to check it out. Apparently this place needs a bit of advertising, as we were the only two customers in the entire restaurant! It had an awesome view and being the only two people there was incredibly romantic. After dinner we hung around there to watch the sun finish setting.
On my last night in Florida, we went to Ft. Lauderdale to see Bowling for Soup. They’re not the best band in the world but they were playing at a venue (relatively) close to where we were and the tickets were cheap. This ended up being one case where I really wish that I hadn’t gotten my money’s worth. They had not one, not two, but three opening bands. And to make matters worse, new instruments were brought out and tuned between each band. The concert began at 7:30 pm and it wasn’t until nearly 11:00 pm when Bowling for Soup took the stage. The general feeling around the club seemed to be that people, like me, were getting sick of the opening bands and wanted them to just get on with Bowling for Soups show. Around midnight we had to take off, as there was a substantial car ride back and I still had packing to do for leaving the next day.
I’m sure I’m leaving tons of stuff out, as I was there for eleven days and I can’t write about everything. Among things left out are going to Gatorama, inflicting Sonya with the pilot and an episode of Firefly, and going to the gumpiest movie theatre ever.
Unfortunately, the time went by far too quickly. It was so incredibly hard to say goodbye at the airport. Thankfully though, I have another trip down to Florida scheduled for August 10th thru 16th, because I miss her already.

| Florida or bust |
[05 Jul 2006|08:30am] |
Well, I dropped Sonya off at the airport this morning. We had an amazing long weekend together, but I miss her already. I'm going down to Florida to visit her from the 21st thru 30th, which I'm really looking forward to. I've just gotta keep telling myself that it's only 16 days away.
We had a lot of good talks while she was up, including one really important one. To cut to the chase, I'm going to try to find a job down in Florida so I can be close to her. You're probably saying to yourself that it's too much too soon, and I've thought about that... but I really have thought it through and it's what both of us want.

Ok, I'm planning on going to see the 10:00pm show of Superman Returns on Tuesday. Anybody else going?

| Countdowns galore |
[20 Jun 2006|10:29am] |
Ok, so all of you are quite aware that I have been counting down the days until Superman Returns comes out, which is in 8 days btw. But now I'm not nearly as hyped about it as I was before.
I'm more focused on what happens in 11 days. On July 1st Sonya will be coming back into town for a little while! I'm hoping that I'll get to introduce her to you guys while she's up, but no guarantees. You can take my word for it though... she's a boatload of awesome.

| I fought the law... |
[15 Jun 2006|09:10am] |
...and the law and I came to a mutually agreeable compromise.
Some of you know that I got my first speeding ticket back in March. I fought it and had the hearing today. I just told the judge that in twelve years of driving I have never received a speeding ticket and that this was the exception rather than the norm. So what he did was the typical "fines but no points" thing that I was kinda expecting.
It made me think about how much it must suck to be a cop where other people (judges) are constantly overriding their authority. Maybe it's just the way that it is for them and they accept it, but it'd royally irk me off if I were in that situation.

| Well I did it.... |
[11 Jun 2006|01:30am] |
This morning I went skydiving. Funny enough I was less nervous going there this morning than I had been for the last two days. Once we got out of the plane at 13,500 feet I was scared shitless for a second, but then I was fine. I think that my problem is that up until that point my brain kept telling me "you can get out of this stupid situation you put yourself in" but past the point of no return it was like "well, you stupid son of a bitch, I better pull it together and make the best of where I'm at."
